Planiscope (2003-...)

Various dimensions and supports

The planiscope's title bring the name of the participant and the date of his computer scan.

The title of each planiscope includes the name of the ‘drawn on’ artist followed by the date of the day when his/her computer was scanned. The content from the computer’s desktop being specific to each one and closely related to its use, the planiscopes thus reflect the organizing methods of each participant. These imprints take on the shape of word nebulas. Color codes enable us to distinguish between the ‘portraits’ of artists ( green), portraits of individuals depending on institutions (red) and those produced/created during Residencies (Blue)

Planiscope, a 2D structure that builds the image from a flattening out the information scanned. The latter sets out and heralds an enterprise, the main principle of which is to examine a plane surface, a sort of Planus-Skopein, whose foundation consists of putting into images all that is contained in the desktop of the hard disk of the artists invited to entrust to us the names of their files and their positions in the tree structure. Like arabesques, Planiscopes are layouts which show the meeting of the Arab world – as an aesthetic universe of plant and ornamental development – and a universe engendered by the evolution of technologies.
